So, my mini-van has serious health problems. What can you expect at 170,000? grrrrr. Jason says that he can't operate until the snow melts. I just pray she will make it through this weeks' surgery.
It's not like Jason has anything else to do. I can't understand why he isn't excited to get on the ground and take a look.

This week we've started our poetry writing unit. hmmmmmm.... It's great. As I've mentioned. I love poetry. On Wednesday, I did a unit on Odes.... thus my Ode to Socks.
We read Shel Silverstein yesterday. Hooray. I used the smartboard both days.
I heart the smartboard.

I own this!!!
Students are so funny.
I like to be a little cheesy in the classroom.
I told them to put "I own This" on pages of homework they thought they did well on. They loved it. Many booklets came in with "I own this" on various pages. Some students will even erase it or put, "I'm going to own this." Just a responsibility issue. In one of the last booklets, a student wrote
"Mrs. Aakhus, I'm just renting..."
Kids just make me smile.

Ode to Socks
Today we studied odes. I used the term rather loosely. I wanted the students to think of odes as something that didn't have to be too serious. We read "Ode to an Artichoke," "Ode to S'mores," "Ode to Feet," "Ode to Pablo's Tennis Shoes." Also, we viewed a keynote presentation of "What a Wonderful World" song by Louie Armstrong. The kids seemed excited. We had fun anyways. We smiled and laughed. We talked a lot about feet. I gave them an example of my ode. It was to Socks. I can't write about serious things any more. I sound like I want to be deep. And really, I come off as really an idiot. So I wrote "Ode to Socks"
Here's my final draft!
Ode to Socks
By Roberta Louise Guillemette Aakhus
Socks! Oh how I love socks...
Every morning I search...
in my basket.
in my drawer.
even, under the couch!
