Proud Parents..

Monday night was the Scholastic award night. The top students in tenth through twelfth grade were honored for their hard work. I was amazed and happy with all the dignity and honor given students who do outstanding work in their studies. Since I'm the yearbook lady, I was there to take pictures. I guess I'm not the only one!

Shel Silverstein

A good egg....

Friday night, Jason hatched an egg. This is as close to child birth as he can get. And so, he takes it hard when only one out of thirteen actually hatched.

The good news is that Natalie is in love with this chicken. She wakes up in the middle of the night to check on her. (I'm hoping it's a she - poleeeeze!) When Nat wakes up in the morning, she reports to me the night' s activities. Last night, the chick told Nat "You have a nice pair of pajamas --- for me to poop on."

So... those jammies with chicken poop have some shout on them soaking and waiting to be washed.

While the chick was hatching, Nat called Jason at his friend's house to report him to get his keester home. She also called my mother, my sister, and her cousin. If someone randomly called the house, Natalie would bring the phone over to the hatching egg and chirp. When the bird would chirp, she'd ask the unsuspecting caller if they heard the chick. "Did you hear it? It's hatching!!!"

Things my momma told me.....

Last Friday Night, my mom called me at 9:30 at night.

"Bobbi? Are my sunglasses at your house?"

"Uhhh.... Oh here they are!"

"Why are they at your house!?" She was very accusatory.

"You left them here on Easter Sunday?"

"Well." She huffed. "Can you bring them to me?"

"I'm in bed."

"Well. Hmmmmm... Will you be in town before 8:00 tomorrow morning?"

Five Paragraph Essay - golly gee.

So here I am. Teaching the one writing tool that is annoying to all creation... Or at least creativity. The five paragraph essay. "AAAAAAAA" I can hear Kurt screaming all the way from Thief River Falls. "DON"T DO IT."

Well gosh golly geee... I just figured they needed to write a paper.

I did not realize how hard it would be.

I'm taking their hands and one by one teaching them such a foreign and bizzare concept. It's like, how can I describe this? It's like I've come into class speaking Japanese and convincing them they can talk Japanese too.

Domo arigato. Come on... you know it... it means Thank you...

The kids are writing an argumentive essay. I want them to have depth, feeling, power. I want them to knock my sox off. You heard me. I don't want crap. For some reason, this must be included in a five paragraph essay. (YIKES)

However, I'm standing at the front of the room. I see the fear in their eyes. I see them tossing and turning in their sleep.

Dang.

I give them powerpoints.

I give them graphic organizors.

I walk around the room helping them fill out the graphic organizors.

What else can a gal do?
