Things KIds Write on My Yearbook-

I giggle at the inscriptions of my yearbook - kids - who's their English teacher anyways? Maybe you'll get a giggle or two also!

"Mrs Aukus, You're the funnest teacher I've had. I'm going to miss you."

"Good luck."

"Hope to see you next year!"

"Bye Mrs. Aukus You are the best. See ya"

"I will miss you so much. You were the coolest"

"Have a great somer. Im gona miss you"

"This was a realy fun year, its gunna be sad without you here."

"by by"

"L.J. is awesome!!!"

"I luv you. You are the best!"

"The nuns Are watching"

Of course, I didn't ask the kids who I've given detention to write in the yearbook.

Those inscriptions would read -

"C ya wouldn't want to be ya!"

"Boo hoo for you!"

"The yearbook was lame!"

"You have favorites."

"Chuck Norris stinks like sour milk."

So, I didn't ask those kids - obviously.

THE RULES

Boys and Girls of ALL ages - I must remind some of you of the rules.

1. Be KIND. There is no reason to cut in line - that even means cutting another driver on the S-curves on your way to work in Thief River - hmm. hmmm....

2. Don't talk in class - Darn it you're distracting the other kids - errrrr... or even me in the middle of this great story.... This of course means to NOT TALK the movie theater - wait for the scene to end - don't ask ME what is going to happen next.

3. RESPECT others and yourself = DON"T LITTER = NO spitballssssss... PEOPLE I hate finding spitballs on my shelves and floors of the classroom. Also - in my ditches along the gravel roads - pop cans - beer cans - long strange balloons that I'm in denial about.

4. FORGIVENESS is the same as KINDNESS - if someone apologizes.... try really hard to forgive - put yourself in their shoes. THINK BEFORE you start the fight on the playground/bar/church picnic.

5. THERE are problems and there are REAL PROBLEMS - one will affect your ego - the other will effect your safety, finances, marriage, or home. THIS again counts on the FORGIVENESS item.

Thanks - Let's follow these rules - I'll add more as I see fit.

Dedication

This afternoon we dedicated our yearbook to a fellow English Teacher. I love the moment of surprise on her face. She was so surprised. The look on her face was priceless. She's an amazing teacher.

Wrinkles

Have you noticed that teachers start the year wrinkle free, but as the year goes on, more and more wrinkles appear?

Maybe it's because we have 120 students to think about and worry about.

This afternoon, I smiled at three of the finest and asked them how excited they were for the second and third of June.

"No school!" They cheered.

"Not exactly, you'll be spending it with me since you haven't given me one speck of homework."

Two of the three got out their pens and got to work - the other one - well, he likes to live close to the edge.

People -

People! The reason we have a brain is to think before we open our trap doors. Golly gee... I got to one of my favorite local blogs today and read Eric Bergeson's post on Mother's Day.... Oh the things people say...

However, one woman told me yesterday that I looked a lot fatter in person than I do on the picture in my column and another told me today that I was much more handsome in the newspaper than I am in person.

Good to know, I guess!

Ha! This lady must be a member of my family - because some of us tend to do this too. "Oh - I hope your deadbeat husband remembered your birthday" Or... "Is your dad still a job hopper?" Or "Mental illness runs in your family. Do you have mental illness?"

Cracks me up every time.

Letter of Recommendation ...

If I'm ever a boss, I'm going to write a letter of recommendation for my employees every year. What brings this up? Well, my boss wrote the nicest letter of recommendation for me. He had my teaching dreams pinpointed. His letter showed me that he got me. He knew how much I cared about my students and that he appreciated my hard work. The kinds of words of encouragement that put a smile on an employee's face. The kinds of words that make one feel like they are on a personal legend.... sigh...

And so, if I'm ever a boss- I'm going to write my employees a letter of recommendation so they have something to read if they ever wonder if they're appreciated.

Girls Day -

Saturday afternoon, Jason turned to me and asked what I wanted for Mother's Day. I looked at my pathetic scuffed up heals and sighed "A manicure and a pedicure."

We decided to treat the girls too!

Jason brought us some Italian Sodas, and we slurped up our yummy drinks while we had our feet messaged.

I think the girls will always remember this Mother's Day.

I know I will.

Mother's Day

Lucky for me the girls' piano recital was on Mother's Day! We were so proud to hear the girls play their songs. Of course, I'm biased. I think everything they do is fabulous!!
